TCPS Online Research

World Book Online

World Book offers more than 25,000 encyclopedia articles that are carefully edited to suit the educational level of the users most likely to use them, from grades 4 through 12 and adults. There are 1,800 tables that cover a huge range from facts about countries and other places, to important dates. World Book offers more than 100 animations and videos. World Book offers approximately 10,000 audio clips of bird songs, popular and classical music, national anthems, word pronunciations, and much more. The 500 maps in the online atlas cover the whole globe interactively, linking to each other, and directly to articles on continents, countries, states, provinces, cities and other places shown on the maps. The dictionary contains approximately 248,000 entries. Users can either search for a word or double-click on any word appearing in a World Book article for a definition. There is also access to the Spanish version of World Book.


These research sites are available to all students in Tazewell County Public Schools. They do not require a username or password and are accessible from any computer in the school division.

GALE GROUP

GaleGroup offers 5 databases for users to access. Student Resource Center Bronze and Junior are fully integrated databases containing thousands of curriculum-targeted primary documents, biographies, topical essays, background information, critical analyses and full-text coverage of between 300 and 450 magazines and newspapers as well as photographs and audio and video clips.

The Junior and Student Editions offer access to a variety of indexed and full-text magazines, newspapers and reference books for information on current events, the arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, history, sports and more for middle school students and high school students respectively.

The Junior Reference Collection is a comprehensive, cross-curricular database for schools and libraries featuring current, relevant, organized, and easy-to-read information from the U*X*L product line, covering science, biographies, authors, multicultural topics, and people and places.

All five databases are accessible from the same main page.

GROLIER ONLINE

NOTE: To access Grolier Online from home, a Tazewell County Public School student must click 'Grolier Patron Enrollment Form' below to apply for a username and password that will be sent to his/her email address. It should only be necessary to enter that username and password the first time 'Grolier Online' is accessed from home. After that, access should be automatic when the student clicks the 'Grolier Online' link above.

Encyclopedia Americana
Long a standard in school, academic, and public library collections, the Encyclopedia Americana is now available on the World Wide Web, blending the depth and accuracy of the print edition with the currency expected of an online reference work. Its
45,000 articles and more than 25 million words have been contributed by over 6,500 specialists in their respective disciplines and cover all academic fields and curriculum topics. Updated quarterly.

Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia
The Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia is based on the text of the Academic American Encyclopedia. First published in 1980, the latter quickly established itself as a highly respected reference work, combining unequaled currency with authoritativeness
equal to that of more venerable encyclopedias. Contains thousands of new and expanded articles, extensive hyper linking, bibliographies and links to other sources of information on the Web. Updated monthly.

eLIBRARY

eLibrary resources include newspapers, magazines, books, maps, pictures, audio/video, and tv/radio transcripts.
